What has become obvious to me, now, is that despite an intellectual disability, our intellectually disabled friends are not disabled in the most important attributes of our humanness, to the contrary they are even more endowed with these virtues. For 30 years I have been supporting them with the mundane aspects of living while they have been supporting me with the qualities of being human that really matter.
