Frequently Asked Questions About Switching Providers
How long does changing providers take?
The time required to change providers can vary depending on your current service agreement, notice periods and support arrangements. In many cases, the process can begin quickly once the necessary discussions and planning have taken place.
Our team will guide you through each step and work with you to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Can I keep my current support workers?
Many people worry about losing trusted support workers when changing providers.
In some circumstances, support workers may be able to transition with you. This depends on a range of factors, including employment arrangements and individual circumstances.
During our initial conversations, we’ll discuss your preferences and explore all available options to help maintain consistency wherever possible.
Will my supports stop during the transition?
The goal is always to minimise disruption and ensure continuity of support.
We work closely with you, your family, support coordinator (if applicable), and any existing providers to carefully plan the transition and reduce the risk of gaps in service.
Every situation is different, and we’ll work with you to develop a plan that supports a smooth changeover.
Do I need a Support Coordinator?
No. You do not need a Support Coordinator to change providers.
Many people make the transition independently, while others choose to involve a Support Coordinator, family member, advocate or trusted person for additional support.
We’re happy to work with whichever support network you have in place.
Is there a cost to change providers?
There is no fee to speak with our team about your options or explore whether SCILS is the right fit for you.
Any existing service agreements, notice periods or funding arrangements should be reviewed as part of the transition process. Our team can help explain what may apply to your situation.
What happens to my current service agreement?
If you decide to change providers, your existing service agreement may need to be ended in accordance with its terms and conditions.
We encourage people to review their agreement carefully and can help explain the transition process. Where appropriate, we can also work alongside your support network to help coordinate the change.
What if I'm not sure I'm ready to change?
That’s completely okay.
Many people contact us simply to ask questions, explore their options or better understand what changing providers might involve. There is no obligation to proceed.
Our team is happy to have a conversation, provide information and help you make an informed decision that’s right for you.
Can I talk to someone before deciding?
Absolutely. We understand that changing providers is an important decision. An initial conversation gives you the opportunity to ask questions, learn more about SCILS and explore whether we’re the right fit for your needs and goals, with no obligation to move forward.
That one’s a conversion goldmine because it’s really what most people want to know before filling in the form.
